Pilates is an incredible movement system for getting to know yourself and your body better. How you do anything is how you do everything; emotions, habits, injuries old and new, thoughts, all live inside your tissues and impact how you move and how you feel.  Pilates is like math in the body- you put the work in and you will live in your results in a very short amount of time.

“In 10 sessions, you feel better, 20 sessions you look better, 30 sessions you have a completely new body.” J. Pilates

The more often you do Pilates, the more quickly and intensely you will see and feel a difference in your body. The more you do anything, the more you learn and change. That’s how change happens…through repetition…and not repeating just once a month, but often.

It’s like learning to play the piano, if we practice three times a week, we play like we practice three times a week.  Between sessions, you don’t  stop working- with Pilates you are processing and evaluating and adjusting consciously and subconsciously in-between. This is how we train or study for anything; a musical instrument, dance, sport etc…it is the same with  Pilates. Pilates is a conversation with your nervous system. How you do anything is how you do everything. If you have interest in Private Pilates, email Ellen.

“Pilates is the what you do to do everything else you do, better.” Ellen Abraham

Pilates on the Apparatus – There are over 500 exercises that have been developed for the primary pieces of  spring resistance-based Pilates apparatus – the Reformer, the Cadillac/Wall Unit, and the Chair. Each piece of equipment is complimentary to the other, and has both its own distinct function and unique series of exercises. These exercises are done on the reformer to promote length, strength, flexibility, and balance. Most Pilates reformer exercises have to do with pushing or pulling the carriage, or holding the carriage steady during an exercise as it is pulled on by the springs. These pieces of equipment challenge not only the first-time beginner but the most advanced practitioners as well.  Each Pilates session may utilize several pieces of the primary equipment, and is guaranteed to keep you and your muscles progressively challenged, inspired and engaged.
